From day one, fighter pilots from Vasylkiv courageously took down dozens of Russian aircraft over Kyiv, notably destroying an IL-76 transport plane attempting to deploy enemy paratroopers near the capital. In less than three weeks, they downed at least 20 hostile aircraft.
